New Delhi: Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya made a statement in the Lok Sabha on the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat in the Paris Olympics. He told why Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified and what the government is doing about it.
The Sports Minister said that Vinesh’s weight was checked twice in the morning. Her weight was found to be 50 kg 100 grams. After which she was disqualified. We have lodged strong protest before international organizations. However, even after this, the uproar continued in Parliament. Opposition MPs got so angry that they walked out of the House.
What is the rule
Vinesh Phogat’s weight was mandatory to be 50 kg for the competition. According to the rules of the International Wrestling Federation, weighing is done every morning for the respective category for all competitions. According to Article-11, ‘If an athlete does not participate or fails in the weight (first or second), he will be eliminated from the competition and placed last without any rank.’
Sports Minister gave full details of help in the House
At the same time, the Sports Minister said in Parliament, the Indian Olympic Association has complained to the International Olympic Association. We have also lodged a protest with the International Wrestling Federation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has spoken to Indian Olympic Committee chief PT Usha. PT Usha is currently in Paris. We hope that justice will be done.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in the Lok Sabha that the government helped him in every possible way. Personal staff was appointed for him. Hungary’s famous coach Volar Akos and physio Ashwini Patil were deployed. Money was given to many sparring partners, strength and conditioning experts. Opposition walked out
When Mansukh Mandaviya was giving information about financial assistance from the government to Vinesh Phogat, the opposition MPs stood up and started protesting. They started raising slogans regarding the earlier treatment of Vinesh Phogat. The opposition bench also accused the government of not taking concrete steps in this matter. But citing the rules, the Lok Sabha Speaker did not give them a chance to speak. Dissatisfied with the statement of the Sports Minister, MPs of many opposition parties including Congress, TMC and SP walked out of the Lok Sabha.
On the other hand, the MPs were not satisfied with his statement. Opposition MPs demanded the government to raise the issue at a higher level. They asked – tell us what you have done so far. Angry with the answer of the Sports Minister, the MPs walked out of the House.
Vinesh will return without a medal
According to the rules, after being disqualified, wrestler Vinesh Phogat will not be able to win any medal in Paris Olympics 2024. That means despite reaching the final, Vinesh will have to return to India without a medal. It is clear that despite reaching the final, Vinesh Phogat has lost silver and bronze as well, let alone gold.
